At the start of 2016, I knew that at some point of time this year I would be moving to another country to study. I didn’t know when or where but I knew it was going to happen. With that in mind, you would think that I would have mentally prepared myself for the day to arrive when I actually did leave…

I am 17 days away from that day to arrive and I am filled with anxiety at the thought of it arriving sooner than I can imagine. You could say “it’s just going abroad to study, plenty of people have done it before.” Well that is true, I am quite certain that the majority would tell you that what I am feeling right now is a rather common feeling.

I used the word anxious to describe what I am feeling simply because I have not quite come to terms if its something I am excited for or dreading. So I guess the word anxious was as close as I got to finding a word that encapsulated both emotions.

I am excited because the thought of venturing beyond this red dot to discover and learn beyond daily  academics is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I imagine it to be the first step into a whole series of adventures and learning experiences as I step into another phase of my life. An opportunity to grow and travel. To be honest, I am not even certain if this route I am about to take is the right one. After taking months to mull over it, I am still not a 100% sure. Despite that, I am still looking forward to grow in knowledge and see what doors open for me.

On the other hand, I am dreading being away from family, friends, loved ones. It’s a typical reason really. Nothing out of the ordinary but yet that emotion weighs heavy on me. It’s not that I cannot be independent but I enjoy living in comfort of having them around and not 6,302km away from me.

Also, the worry of not being sure what to expect is something that I struggle to get over. My head comes up with a hundred things that could go wrong and the feeling of feeling lost in another city eats away at me. My mind can’t seem to grasp the concept of not being in control. When I cannot control how certain things play out  (e.g. being uncertain on where to go or what to do or how it will be like), I start to get anxious. And I have struggled with this for a long time coming. Thus, with each passing day that anxiety gets worse and worse. I get nightmares about how horrible school turned out to be and about taking exams when in actual fact I am simply on holiday and should not have a mind flooded with such thoughts to begin with.

With all that said, i guess it would be anyone’s presumption that the negative is weighing a lot more than the positive. Even if it’s true, I need to turn that minus into a plus because whatever the case may be, I am going. So I guess till that day arrives, I just have to live in the now and enjoy my time at home before the next chapter begins.

Welcoming 2016!

2015 has been a rollercoaster ride but I’m excited for what 2016 has in store. I’m about to enter a new phase of my life, hit the big 2-0 and plenty of changes are coming my way.

I ushered in the New Year with my family and best friend, spending a night in at home with delicious home-cooked meal that tasted divine, a couple of drinks and good movies. This year was a much more laid-back New Year’s Eve celebration in comparison to the previous years like watching and getting hit by the fireworks in Berlin or getting soaked by the snow in Finland. Nonetheless, it was a great night.

A New Year is never complete without making some New Year Resolutions. But let’s be honest, there is a 90% chance these resolutions will be the same ones I am going to make in 2017. At least, I tried haha. I have never been one to make resolutions but this year, I thought I would give it a shot. As such, some of my new year resolutions are:

1. Read more books

Growing up, I have never been an avid reader. In fact, my parents had to force a book into my hands. As I grew older, I started enjoying reading more. It was not until last year, I understood the beauty of reading. I read plenty of books last year. Those included The Maze Runner series (BEST. SERIES. EVER), Where Rainbows End, Paper Towns, The Girl On The Train and Hello Life! to name a few. This year, I intend to indulge in even more books. I just ordered a tons of books from Book Depository and I cannot wait for them to arrive!!

2. Take More Pictures/ Videos

As 2015 came to an end, I found a new interest in photography and videography. I started bringing my DSLR out more, especially on days when I did things a little out of my usual daily routines. Snapping anything and everything. After which, seeing what I could do with what I caught on camera. They are definitely not the most artistic shots or tumblr-worthy, but I like it all the same. It’s just a hobby and something I love to do. Hopefully with more practice I will get better at it. With the new Olympus Pen I got for Christmas, I am all the more fueled up and excited to take even more pictures and  videos.

3. Live in UK/ Australia

Having mentioned earlier, I am about to start University life soon. That means that I am currently in the midst of applying to schools both locally and abroad. To be honest, I have always wanted to study overseas. Hence, a hopeful New Year’s Resolutions is to either live in UK/ AustraliaThis is something you will not usually find on everyone’s resolution list, but fingers-crossed, I am able to venture beyond this Red Dot.

4. Pray more

FUEL Retreat 1

In all honesty, I have never been the most prayerful person. More often than not, I find myself having fallen asleep when I am supposed to say my prayer before bed or having rushed out of the house before having to say my morning prayer. Perhaps not many people can relate, but I definitely want to change that bad habit, this year.

5. Learn to cook a new dish, every week

ft. a photo of one of my all time favourite dish (we all know I would never be able to make this but just thought it looks extremely appetizing

We all know that clearly I did not make this, but hopefully it serves as motivation to learn how to cook! Haha!

In relation to resolution number 3, if I were to go overseas, I definitely need to learn how to cook. Can’t possibly be having take out every day and I would miss my home-cooked meals as well. As such, it is a resolution to learn a new dish each week. And if I manage to nail it, I will definitely be sharing about it here.

6. Adopt a healthier lifestyle

If any of you know me, I am the literal definition of a couch potato. Getting me to step out of the door to run is near impossible and the closest I get to exercising is doing Marcus Butler’s routine sets in my bedroom (though to be honest, those are some pretty tough work out as well). This is one resolution I make a mental note of each year but failing to ever succeed. Hopefully, by writing it down it may affect a change in outcome. Whether it is eating cleaner or visiting the gym more often or even just doing sets in my room, I definitely want to try to adopt this healthier lifestyle.

7. Do More Of What Makes Me Happy

Just doing more of the things I love, basically!

8. Travel To New Places

If I could only choose to do one thing for a lifetime, it would be to travel. I’m so excited for the places I am going to visit, the people that I will meet and the food I will eat. There are so many places on my list I wish to see but at the top would be Italy & Greece.

So there you have it! Some of my New Year Resolutions. I am sure there will be more I want to add when I think of it, but these are a few right off the back of my head.

Starting off the year with some goals and clear mindsets, I am ready to take on 2016.

Merry Christmas, Everybody!

I am probably a little late on the Christmas post but with all the celebrations and chill time with family and friends, I basically did not have much time till now. It’s been a wonderful Christmas-filled week with plenty of eating, opening of presents and just spending some great time with the people I love.

Not going to get down into the nitty-gritty of what I have done over the past few days but instead I just wanted to share a couple of my favourite parts about Christmas.

Firstly, (and I hope I am not the only one) but the amount of food I get to eat during Christmas is simply the best. I have had turkey, ham, Shepard’s pie, roasted chicken and all other kind of food that you would usually find in a Christmas meal. Let’s not forget all the deserts I have had ranging from macaroons, tiramisu, christmas pudding and best of all, the Chocolate Tart from Laurent Bernard. IT IS AN ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE OF MINE. I wait a good 365 days to indulge in it every 25th of December.

Next, the giving and receiving of presents. I am always super excited to open my presents, and I am the type of girl who would literally wait till Christmas day to open them even if I received it in the earlier days of December. I have received so many presents this year and I am so thankful for the thought that went into each and every one of them no matter how big or small they are. But I have to say the top three gifts have got to be the Olympus Pen E-PL7, the Audio Technica Automatic Belt-Drive Stereo Turntable and the Dior Addict Lipstick.

Whilst I received lovely gifts, I also gave a couple of gifts that I was really excited to get for my family and friends. I got a couple of them online from ASOS which was a really worth-it buy. Those included, the Ted Baker clutch and a watch. Then I went out to buy a few more presents, like the Cherry Japanese Blossom Body Mist from The Body Shop, a Picard Wallet and few more items like Victoria Secret Set etc. It was quite exciting for me to see the reactions of my loved ones as I was never really the one to go out and get gifts. I usually let my mom handle the presents. But this year I thought I tried something a little different, and since I have been working I thought why not spend a little money for the people I love. I really thought through what I think the person may want or need and got their present accordingly. So to see their happy faces was certainly heart-warming.

Last but not least, the best part of Christmas had got to be the time I got to spend with the people I love. Whether it may be sitting around the table playing Heads-up, having a Secret Santa gift exchange, staying in watching movies together or going out for a nice meal. I loved every second spent with them and I only wish Christmas could last for a longer period of time.

Decorating the Christmas Tree

My absolute favorite thing about Christmas is putting up the decorating the house and dressing the tree with everything festive I can lay my hands on. This year, I went on a hunt to get a few more ornaments to add to my already large collection of baubles and other ornaments. Alongside, buying more wreaths to decorate the table tops, flowers to dress the tree to give it a more vibrant look and garlands.

We ordered an 8 ft. pine tree which basically means that my entire house is fragrant with the smell of pine. The tree came in on friday and that meant it was time to get down to business. After wrapping the tree with three bundles of lights of red and yellow/white, my family started dressing the tree and it was my dad’s job as the man of the family to do the final touch of placing the star right at top. With christmas music playing away in the background and everyone placing baubles, flowers, bells, stars, mini stockings and baby with harps, it was really starting to look like Christmas.

My Christmas Playlist:

We themed this year’s decor to be that of Red, Gold and Green. The classic festive colours and here are some pictures of this year’s decorations.

Meeting Malfie

After counting down the days for a good two weeks or so, the day finally arrived and I met my favorite youtubers, MARCUS BUTLER & ALFIE DEYES.

I was without a doubt estatic when the day finally arrived. After rushing down to Suntec City, I had to wait for franny to arrive, so I decided to go get myself a Starbucks to kill some time. When queuing up, the two girls in front of me had bright luminous green bands on. I had guessed their age to be about 17 or so and as such, was quite certain they were going to meet Marcus & Alfie too. When Fran finally arrived, we asked them if they were one of the 150 people who won the meet & greet and true enough they were there for the same reasons as us. We quickly became friends and headed to registration area at the Convention Centre. Let’s just say Suntec City is way too huge.

After registering, Franny & I decided it would be a good idea to try and grab something to eat. At that point of time, we had no idea that we had to walk who knew how far just for a bite. After hunting and searching for the directories we concluded that a sandwich from Starbucks would be the quickest and easiest thing to grab. We frantically tried to gobble down our lunch whilst preparing the gifts we brought for #Malfie.

The girls we met at Starbucks were so lovely to let us join in the queue with them so we did not have to be at the back and as such we reached back the Convention Centre right on time to head on in.

We entered the hall to see so many chairs lined up and sat 4 rows from the front. After another half hour of waiting, the moment finally arrived. Marcus & Alfie walked on stage and the crowd went insane. There was a 14-year-old boy seated in front of me who had an amazing talent for drawing. He Immdiately lifted the potraits he drew of Alfie & Zoella and Marcus & Naomi up, instantly grabbing their attention.

The next 30-45 mins or so went on with an interview about their Youtube lifestory. It even included questions from the audience and Alfie facetiming Zoella & of course Nala which basically made Franny lose her mind if she did not lose it when shouting “PRATA!” when they were asking what to eat for breakfast, of which we are quite sure Marcus heard it considering his facial expression.

It was quite surreal to see them seated up there on stage because they are people I’ve seen on videos watching their daily vlogs for the longest time and suddenly there they were right in front of my eyes. It’s like “WOW, YOU ARE REAL.”

The meet & greet finally began and the excitment continued to build with each person that was done with meeting them. Finally my turn finally arrived and I was awe-struck. They are freakishly tall with amazing accents that could just make me melt and smelt so good. On top of that they are even better looking in r eal life oh gosh. When Marcus said “how’re you?”, I think I might have just reached cloud nine. It was quite unfortunate that they were not allowed to sign anything apart from their books of which Hello Life decided not to be delivered in time (I’m quite certain it would come this week instead, what great timing). What was worse was that two turns before mine, one of the girls that we met was about to ask them to sign their books when the Events Manager stopped them claiming that there weren’t enough time. The disappointment in her eyes and their eyes when they heard that was unparalled. You could quite see the frustration on Marcus and Alfie’s face, as well.

Nonetheless, when my turn came around they were amazingly sweet and genuine. Alfie even added that he liked the photoframe I brought along because it was an extra one I had after making the gifts for them.

After the meet & greet, we decided to continue to busk in their presence and hang around the stage where the M&G was held. While standing at the side, Alfie looked at us, flashed the largest grin and waved, which made us so very happy. We continued to stand there trying to get Marcus to wave at us too. Succesfully doing so. He was about to hug another fan when he saw us and stopped to wave at us too. HAHA.

Overall that was quite literally one of the best days I had in an extremely long while. So thankful for franny for bringing me along to meet them and of course for her company for the entire day.

Yes, I have finished rambling about my fan-girl moments and I will leave it with just a couple of the many pictures I took that day.

Look at Marcus's face please, I think I just died.

Most Wonderful Time of the Year

It’s beginning to look like Christmas, everywhere you go~

It’s finally December! I have waited a good 11 months for this time of year to finally arrive once again. Unfortunately, this year there will be no cold winds, hot chocolate and sweaters to boost the Christmassy feels. Nonetheless, it is my favorite time of the year once again.

I am really glad to be able to enjoy a full December of Christmas feels because for the past few years exams always fell on the week before the 25th. As such, I was never really able to enjoy the anticipation leading up to Christmas.

Being me, I was just a tad bit excited for Christmas and having seen some of the beautiful decorations on Pinterest, I decided that buying a garland to decorate the front door rather than just hanging a wreath and ‘Merry Christmas’ bunting was necessary. So last sunday I went Christmas decorating shopping with my girls.

Our first stop: IKEA

Sadly, the selection they had was miserable and a disappointment.

Second stop: Robinsons

Wow was that a change, the selectioin was much wider and though a lot more pricer it was well worth-it. So I found two garlands there and bought 2m of yellow lights to wrap around the garlands so that it would look lovely when lited at night. In addition, as it was the Black Friday weekend, I received 20% and an additional 10% off my buys!! Whoohoo! What a saver.

Shopping shopping

On most cases I would not buy much things when I head out by myself mainly because everything is expensive and I’m trying to save some money. But when in town on a Sunday and on the weekend of Black Friday, all the prices seemed irresistable. So after buying my christmas decorations, I walked around with Nat and decided to walk into an A&F store just to take a look since I had another 45mins or so before my 3 hours parking was expired (yes, I wanted to make sure I fully utilized my $5 parking fee). Turns out, we could not help our selves to splurge a little more on the discounted boyfriend jeans.

After a full day of shopping, I reached home, had a nice shower and lazed on the couch as I watched ThatcherJoe’s Innuendo Bingo & YouTuber Whisper whilst waiting for X Factor to start. But that wasn’t the end of the day. Once again, the excitment got the better of me and I insisted on putting up some of the decorations. Bad idea!!

The garlands as beautiful as they were, were extremely difficult to wire the lights around it especially since they were two separate garlands with only one 2m wire lights to wrap around them both. Thus began the tedious task of trial & error trying to get the lighting right and making sure that it sat on the door frame nicely with no wires sticking out and that every inch of the garland was covered in lights.

It took me a good 2 hours and by the time I was done, I had to take a shower again. But it was definitely worth the hardwork. The lightings looked beautiful and I couldn’t be happier!

So here are some pictures of the Hong’s home christmas decorating Part One!
